"Buying
Mom a Block"
(and
other
assorted topics)

So -
if you are not familiar with this project (and you are not alone, as
it was just formally announced on May 9th, 2008) - check

"Looks
OK to me so far - what do I do next?.."
Two residents of Pwoje Espwa
Answer: Well, next - let us describe what this is all about,
OK? There are some folks in the USA - and even around the world - that celebrate
"Mothers Day". It's a day that Moms expect "something" - could be a card, a call, flowers, a hug - well - whatever. Just a simple way to say
"Hey - Thanks Mom - you are still pretty cool..."

"You mean
EVERYBODY has a Mom where you live?"
Answer:
Well, not everybody does - but there are a LOT of Moms out
there. And there are a lot of different kind of
"Moms". Some Moms are your Mom who birthed you - and
some, are Moms who just care about you like a Mom. Some Moms
are in heaven, and we still love those Moms. Some Moms are
even "Dads", who love you like a Mom, but he's a
guy. And some Moms meet you - and then you love them like a
Mom and they love you like a Mom. But - all of these different
kind of Moms? They just love you. And you just love
them. And if you do - then they are your Mom!
Also, sometimes, we
forget about our Mom's - so Mother's day is a special day to remember
your Mom. It sort of reminds us that somehow - EVERYONE does
have a Mom, or we wouldn't be here today without a Mom to bring us
into this world - if you know what I mean? If you don't understand
that - ask me when you are older - and I'll 'splain it to you
- but for now, just understand there has to be a Mom and a Dad for
anyone to be born like you OK??

"Boy, we
can't wait until you tell us how that all works! OK - so, what
happens next?"
Answer:
Well, let's say you have a special Mom, or want to remember
a special Mom. You can do lots of things - like buy a card, or
flowers, or well - you know.. All that stuff. At your
ages - 10 & 11 - it probably seems pretty sappy - well, Moms
like "sappy stuff". I don't know why, but, well,
they
just do. So - some folks want to do something "different"
so their Mom will get something "different" then the
"other Moms".
Is
that important? Yep - it is important, because Moms talk and they always ask each
other "what did you get for Mothers Day?" Yea
- Moms talk a lot..
"So
- what is a BLOCK - and why would I give one to my Mom?"
Answer:
A "block" is that grey concrete thingy. It's
heavy - so don't drop one on your toe - it will HURT a whole
lot! Anyway - to make things - like buildings, schools,
walls - we need "blocks". Lots of
blocks!! Truckloads of blocks! Hills of blocks!
Mountains of blocks! Also - blocks are pretty BIG. So you are not really going to "give" her a block, like have to wrap it up and carry it or anything - but
you will "give it to her" another way. If fact - I don't want you to have to carry it - because the blocks have to stay here in Haiti, at Pwoje Espwa - so we can build things - like your school.
Now - the reason that you want to give her one is simple! How many Moms - when they talk - can say
"I got concrete blocks in Haiti so I can be a Mom to almost 700
children!". Bet they will be the best Mom with the best gift!

"How does
that work? How can they be a Mom to almost 700 of us here, In
Haiti?"
Answer:
Remember I said Moms are just people who "care"
about you? Well - if these Moms didn't care about you - they
wouldn't buy any blocks for you? But they did - or their
children did, who care about their Moms and want their Moms to care
about you too. So, it's not just the Moms that care about you -
their sons and daughters that care about you too.. And - that's a
whole lot of people.
"OK
- I want to do this. I suppose you want me to send money or
something? If I do - what happens...??"
Answer:
Well - yea - sort of - I need you to send some money to buy
blocks for your Mom. Also, blocks cost about $5.2 Haitian Dollars
per block, and since I'm not good a math - let's just use $1 US per
block. Any extra - we'll spend on "glue" (cement) for the
blocks to hold them together - a deal?
Next
- If you want to buy Blocks - choose how many from the table
below - and next PRESS the MAKE A DONATION Button!
After we get your donation - we will e-mail you and ask you for your
Moms Name and address - but - since we don't like that stuff stored
on a webserver (for privacy) it might take a little while (if I'm
not asleep in bed or something. My Mom likes me to get a lot of
sleep.) Also - because you are paying for your Moms BLOCKS - you
will get a receipt (for taxes, if you are old enough to pay taxes??
;) )

Our Standards and Principles
|
Project Rennwish, Inc. is guided by some basic, yet demanding principles. Many of those principles differentiate us from other Non-Profit Organizations. In short - we do not "blindly give money".
Rather, we attempt to invigorate basic humanity and instill a
"sense of pride" in peoples daily accomplishments.
In short:
-
We do not want to "run" or "own" any of
the projects undertaken with our "partners"; but rather - we develop long term relationships with those
partners who live everyday within those projects/villages, effecting long term positive
change;
-
We only become involved with programs that directly effect core values of humanity
and morality -
such as education, care of those less fortunate, children who have no hope otherwise. We entrust our "partners" to maintain that same level of integrity and honesty;
-
Our "success" is not measured by what we "operate" or "own" (we do neither)- but rather, how our investments have changed a single child, a group of children, a family - or again - in this case - an entire
generation of children in both the short and long term. It is our sincere hope that our "projects" outlast and persevere far beyond our mortal lives.
-
We
demand integrity, moral ethics and irreproachable principles
from our partners with whom we undertake partnership programs.
